The Distributed IoT Platforms, Privacy and Edge-Intelligence Research (DIPPER Lab) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has partnered with the Trust and Safety Africa Academy (TSAA), an initiative of the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF), to launch a Trust and Safety Training Programme in Ghana.

The collaboration aims to promote AI safety and security, digital trust, online safety, and responsible technology education across Africa.

Through this collaboration, the institutions will co-design and deliver training programs that equip researchers, students, professionals, and policymakers with the skills and awareness needed to navigate today’s complex digital landscape.

Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Emmanuel Adinkrah, Executive Director of the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF), highlighted the importance of bridging academia and real-world digital safety challenges.

“This collaboration with KNUST represents a milestone in Africa’s digital safety journey. By building capacity and nurturing local expertise, we are shaping a future where technology is safer, more inclusive, and resilient, “he said.

Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao, Scientific Director of the DIPPER Lab, emphasized the importance of the partnership, taking into account the safety and security issues surrounding frontier technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence.

The partnership will focus on:

  • Design and implement a Trust and Safety Training Program tailored to regional needs.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between academia, industry, and civil society.
  • Develop research and applied projects on digital resilience, trust and safety and AI Security and Safety.
  • Promote awareness and advocacy around online safety best practices

Through this initiative, DIPPER Lab, TSAA, and GISF reaffirm their commitment to empowering Africa’s digital citizens and ensuring that online safety is treated as a universal right.
